Kalliyoor lies on the southern outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. From above it reads as a patchwork rather than a centre: small roads wind between houses, coconut groves and low ridges, and open paddy fields appear as smooth gaps in the fine mesh of lanes.
