Kannānkurichchi lies on the northern side of Salem in Tamil Nadu, where the city's streets start to loosen before the ground rises into the Shevaroy Hills. On a map the town appears as a mesh of residential lanes and main roads that tie it to the larger city to the south. Open land and water tanks sit in between.
The hills are what give the place its shape. To the north the contour of the Shevaroys stops the street pattern abruptly. The road up to the hill station of Yercaud starts its climb nearby, so on a detailed map the gentle grid of the plain turns into a road that folds back on itself as it gains height.
