Keffi sits in the rolling uplands of Nasarawa State, a short drive east of Abuja along one of the main routes out of the Federal Capital Territory. From above, the town reads as a dense core of small blocks and winding lanes, with longer, straighter roads pushing outward toward newer neighbourhoods and the open, gently hilled country beyond.
The town grew as the seat of the Keffi Emirate, founded in the early nineteenth century, and it keeps that older centre around which later growth has gathered. It is also home to Nasarawa State University, whose campus adds a looser pattern of buildings and access roads to the edge of the street network, distinct from the tighter weave of the historic quarters.
