Khalāri lies in the Ranchi district of Jharkhand, in the hilly plateau country of eastern India. The town's development has been closely tied to industry, particularly cement works and coal mining in the surrounding area. From above, the map shows scattered settlements, industrial sites and rail lines threading between forested hills rather than a single dense centre.
