Kyzyl-Suu lies in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan, a short distance from the southeastern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, one of the largest mountain lakes in the world. It is the administrative centre of the Jeti-Oguz District and was formerly known as Pokrovka. Behind it, the Terskey Ala-Too range of the Tian Shan rises sharply to the south.
