La Concepción is the seat of the Bugaba district in the western Panamanian province of Chiriquí. From above, it is a lowland town organised around the Pan-American Highway, which runs through it from east to west. A regular grid of streets extends to either side, with the market, church and public buildings near the centre.
From here, a road heads north into the highlands towards Volcán and the slopes of Volcán Barú, Panama's highest peak. To the west, the highway continues towards Paso Canoas and the Costa Rican border. On a map, these routes branch out from the town and link its compact grid to the mountains and the frontier.

Road to the highlands
A route heads north towards Volcán and Volcán Barú. It climbs away from the lowland grid and ties the town to the mountains of Chiriquí.
