Labuan lies on the west coast of Java in Banten province, where the island faces the Sunda Strait. On the map, the town hugs the shoreline, with a dense core of streets near the harbour and roads running along the coast to the north and south.
The harbour is a working one, used by fishing boats and by boats heading toward the Ujung Kulon peninsula at the far western tip of Java. The coast north of town is lined with beaches, while inland the land rises gradually into farmland and forested hills.
