Lafiagi lies in Kwara State in central Nigeria, in the savanna country north of Ilorin and not far from the Niger River. From above, the town forms a dense, irregular cluster of compounds and lanes, with a few larger roads cutting through and leading out across the surrounding farmland.
The town is the seat of a traditional emirate and the headquarters of Edu Local Government Area. Its older quarters follow the organic layout typical of historic northern Nigerian towns, where family compounds and small courtyards shape the street pattern rather than any grid.
