Lago da Pedra is a town in the interior of Maranhão, in northeastern Brazil. On the map, it forms a modest cluster of streets surrounded by open land. The central blocks are fairly regular. Towards the edges the pattern loosens, and streets thin out into rural roads leading to farms and smaller communities.
The municipality lies in a region of cattle ranching and small-scale agriculture, where towns act as commercial centres for a wide rural area. Its name, which means stone lake, reflects the water features found in the surrounding landscape. The town is connected by road to other centres in the Maranhão interior.
