Lagoa Formosa is a municipality in western Minas Gerais, in the Alto Paranaíba region not far from Patos de Minas. The name means beautiful lagoon. On a map the town is a compact block of streets on gently rolling ground, surrounded by the fields and pasture that dominate this part of the state.
The urban area is laid out in fairly regular blocks, with a few main avenues and a central square that gives the plan a clear middle. Beyond the last streets, rural roads follow ridgelines and field boundaries, and small streams and ponds appear across the landscape between farms.
