Larkhall is a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, set on high ground above the valley of the River Avon, not far from where it joins the Clyde. It grew as a mining and weaving town, and rows of terraced streets still reflect that industrial past. The railway reaches the town across a striking viaduct over the Avon gorge.
From above, the town forms a dense cluster of streets on the plateau, with a main street running through the centre and later housing spreading outward in curving estates. On one side the ground falls away steeply to the wooded river, giving the map a clear natural edge.
