Las Varillas is a town in the San Justo department of Córdoba province, on the flat pampas of central Argentina. Like many towns in the region, it grew around the railway and was laid out as a clean grid of square blocks. The map shows that plan with almost textbook clarity.
The streets run in straight lines and cross at right angles, with a central plaza at the heart of the grid. At the edge of town, the urban blocks give way to large rectangular fields. Rural roads extend the same geometry across the agricultural land toward the horizon.
