Le Kremlin-Bicêtre is a small commune just south of Paris, in Val-de-Marne. Its northern edge meets the city along the Boulevard Périphérique. The map is compact and dense, with streets packed close together. The old route toward Fontainebleau runs straight through the middle as its main axis, and Metro line 7 follows it underground.
The largest single shape on the map is the Bicêtre Hospital, a vast walled complex with a long history as a hospice and hospital. Its courtyards and wings take up a large part of the commune. The unusual name dates from the nineteenth century and is said to come from a local tavern named after Moscow's Kremlin.
