Linxi is a county town in Chifeng, in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia. It lies in hilly country where grassland, farmland and low mountains meet. The town is laid out in a fairly regular pattern of broad streets and blocks, typical of Chinese county seats, and it sits on the lower ground with the terrain rising around it.
Beyond the urban area, the map opens into wide, sparsely settled land. Roads follow the valleys, linking the town to villages and to Chifeng city, and seasonal streams trace thin lines across the slopes. Fields occupy the flatter valley floors, and the higher ground is largely open, giving the landscape a spacious, uncluttered feel.
