Líšeň forms the eastern edge of Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. For centuries it was a separate village, and it became part of Brno only in the twentieth century. The map still shows that history. An irregular old core with narrow lanes sits next to a large, regularly planned estate of apartment blocks built in the socialist era.
The district is bordered by nature on several sides. Woods and valleys reach toward the Moravian Karst to the north, and the wooded Hády hill, with its former limestone quarry, rises nearby. The small Říčka stream cuts a valley along the edge of the district. Trams connect Líšeň with the centre of Brno.

The large estate of apartment blocks is laid out in broad, sweeping curves. It is the most geometric part of the map.

Woods, valleys and Hády hill border the district to the north and east, leaving calm open areas at the edge of the composition.
