Longquan is a town in the uplands of central Yunnan, a region of high ridges, narrow valleys and small patches of flat ground. On the map, the built-up area fills one of those level pockets. Streets and blocks are packed closely together, and the outline stops where the terrain starts to climb. Roads leave town along valleys and contours, bending wherever the land demands.
Like many Chinese county towns, it has grown in recent decades, with broader new roads and larger blocks added around a denser older core.
