Lwengo is the chief town of Lwengo District in Uganda's Central Region, west of Masaka. The land here rolls in low hills and shallow valleys. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster where local roads meet, surrounded by a scattered pattern of homesteads, tracks and cultivated plots.
This is farming country, part of the wider Buganda heartland, where bananas and coffee are grown on small plots across the slopes. The town serves the surrounding villages as a trading and administrative centre, so its layout gathers around roads and markets rather than any grand plan.
