Machagai is a town in Chaco Province in northern Argentina, on the wide, level plain of the Gran Chaco. From above, it has the classic layout of an Argentine provincial town: a regular grid of square blocks, a central plaza and straight avenues. The streets are densest at the centre, and the grid thins out toward the fields.
The town is widely known for its woodworking and furniture industry, built on the hardwoods of the region. National Route 16 passes the town and forms a long, straight line across the map. It links Machagai with Resistencia to the east and Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña to the west.
Beyond the grid, the land opens out into farmland and patches of native forest, crossed by country tracks that run in the same direction as the town's streets. The national highway runs in a long straight line past the town. It connects Machagai with the provincial capital and other towns in the Chaco.
