Māchai is a locality in the Belagavi district of northern Karnataka, close to the city of Belagavi. It sits on the western edge of the Deccan plateau, where the land is gently undulating and the Western Ghats are not far to the west. From above, it looks like a village centre gradually being reached by the spread of a growing city.
The older part of the settlement is a compact cluster of lanes and houses. Around it, newer streets and plots extend along the roads, while agricultural fields still cover much of the surrounding land. Main routes link it to Belagavi and to the wider highway network.
