Mbombela, long known as Nelspruit, is the capital of Mpumalanga and lies in the Crocodile River valley in South Africa's Lowveld. The terrain is hilly, with granite outcrops rising between the suburbs, and the map reflects it. The city is a common stop on the way to the Kruger National Park to the east, and citrus farms and subtropical orchards surround it.
