Moïssala is the capital of the Mandoul province, in the far south of Chad, near the border with the Central African Republic. The area is well-watered by Chadian standards, with wooded savanna, farmland and rivers flowing toward the Chari basin. On a map, Moïssala is a sizeable but low-density town, where wide roads divide large residential blocks.
The centre has a clearer structure than many towns in the region. A few straight main roads meet near the administrative and market areas. Smaller lanes fill the blocks between them.
