Mundelein is a village in Lake County, Illinois, north-west of Chicago, in a landscape of small lakes and wetlands left by glaciers. Its name comes from Cardinal George Mundelein, whose University of Saint Mary of the Lake seminary still occupies a wooded campus on a lake at the edge of town.
The map mixes several patterns. A short, older grid sits around the historic centre and the Metra rail line, curving cul-de-sacs and loops fill the later subdivisions, and lakes and forest preserves create soft, irregular gaps in the network. Major routes cut diagonally through, linking the village to neighbouring suburbs.
