Muratpaşa is the central district of Antalya, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. On a map it runs along a high coastline of cliffs, with the old walled quarter of Kaleiçi curling around a small Roman-era harbour at its western end. From there the modern city spreads east and north in a mix of grids and long boulevards, reaching toward the beaches of Lara.
Kaleiçi preserves narrow lanes, Ottoman houses and Hadrian's Gate, built in honour of the Roman emperor's visit in the second century. The Yivli Minare, with its fluted minaret, is one of the city's symbols. Along the cliffs, Karaalioğlu Park looks out over the bay to the Taurus Mountains.
