Namutumba is the main town of Namutumba District in eastern Uganda, in the Busoga region. The map shows a modest centre where a few streets form a rough grid around the main road. Past the centre, the pattern loosens quickly into tracks that lead out to homesteads and plots of farmland. The countryside is gently rolling, with wetlands and small streams in the low ground.

A regional road runs through town and links it to the rest of eastern Uganda. On the poster it is the strongest line, crossing the composition from edge to edge.
