Nasarawa is the old emirate town that gave its name to Nasarawa State in central Nigeria. It sits in the southwest of the state, in savanna country of low hills, farmland and scattered settlements. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets, with roads leading off toward neighbouring towns.
The older centre, around the emir's palace area, is a dense mixture of compounds and narrow lanes, and newer districts spread outward in looser blocks.
