Natividade is a small municipality in the northwest of Rio de Janeiro state, a region of rolling hills, pastures and river valleys far from the coast and the metropolis. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets set along the valley floor, with the surrounding land rising into irregular hills crossed by winding rural roads.
