Navan is the county town of Meath, and its map is organised by two rivers. The Boyne and the Blackwater meet on the edge of the town, and their valleys shape where streets could go. The older centre sits on rising ground above the confluence, with main streets meeting at a compact market core, while newer housing spreads outward along the approach roads.
The surrounding land is some of the richest farmland in Ireland, and the area is full of history: the Hill of Tara is a short distance to the south, and the Boyne Valley holds many heritage sites.
