Nyimba is the centre of a district in Zambia's Eastern Province, located on the Great East Road that links Lusaka with Chipata and the Malawi border. The road is the defining line of the map, running straight through the town, and most of the built area is arranged along it or on short streets branching directly from it.
Beyond this central strip, the landscape opens into bush, small fields and scattered homesteads, crossed by tracks and seasonal streams. The pattern is sparse and irregular, with long distances between clusters of buildings.
