Oued Zenati sits in the interior of eastern Algeria, in Guelma province, on an upland of rolling cereal fields. From above, the town is compact, with a central grid of streets from which roads reach out across the countryside toward neighbouring towns. Beyond the built-up area, the map opens into wide agricultural land with very little interruption.
The town takes its name from the wadi that runs nearby, and the shallow river courses around it are among the few natural lines on an otherwise open landscape. Like many towns on the plateaus between Constantine and Guelma, it grew as a local centre for farming communities in the surrounding area.
