Pandak is a district in Bantul Regency, south of the city of Yogyakarta on the island of Java. From above, it is not a single dense town but a spread of villages set among irrigated rice fields. Houses cluster along lanes and small roads, and the fields between them form a patchwork of narrow plots.
The area lies on the fertile plain between Yogyakarta and the Indian Ocean coast, a landscape shaped by rivers coming down from the volcanic uplands to the north. On a map, irrigation channels and small streams add thin lines between the fields, and the main roads lead north toward the city and south toward the sea.
