Plainville sits in Hartford County, central Connecticut, on the relatively flat valley floor that gave the town its name. On the map, the difference between the level centre and the higher ground around it shows up quietly. The Pequabuck River winds across the town and adds a soft, irregular line to an otherwise ordinary suburban street pattern.
