Pocinhos is a municipality in the interior of Paraíba, on the Borborema plateau a short drive northwest of Campina Grande. The land here is higher and drier than the coast, and the map reflects that semi-arid setting. It shows a compact town surrounded by open ground and scattered farms, with roads running across the plateau in long, unbroken lines.
The name means little wells in Portuguese, a hint at how much water matters in this region.
