Poço Verde is a municipality in western Sergipe, in northeastern Brazil, close to the border with Bahia. It lies in the semi-arid sertão, a landscape of dry scrub, pastures and seasonal watercourses where life is shaped by rainfall and the rhythm of the dry season.
The town has a straightforward layout. A grid of streets around a main square and church forms the centre, with residential blocks spreading out on all sides. Roads leave town in several directions toward neighbouring municipalities, and beyond the last houses the land opens into farms and grazing land.
