Prestatyn is on the north coast of Wales, facing the Irish Sea, where the flat coastal strip meets the northern end of the Clwydian Range. From above, the town sits between two edges: the straight line of beach and dunes to the north, and the steep, wooded hillside to the south.
The railway along the North Wales coast runs through the town. Streets fill the flat land between rail and shore, and on the other side the town climbs towards the hills. Prestatyn is also known as one end of the Offa's Dyke Path, the long-distance trail that follows the Wales–England border region down to Chepstow.
