Pruszcz Gdański lies immediately south of Gdańsk, on the edge of the flat Vistula delta lowlands. From above it is a compact town of residential estates and older streets, crossed by the Radunia river and the Radunia Canal, with major roads and a railway line running along its edges toward the city to the north.
The area has a long past connected to the amber trade. Archaeological finds from the Roman period are presented at Faktoria, a reconstructed trading settlement in the town that recalls the route along which Baltic amber travelled south. The present town, by contrast, has grown quickly as a residential suburb of the Tricity.
