Puthūr lies in Thrissur district in central Kerala, a short distance from the city of Thrissur. Like much of the state, it is not a town with a hard edge. Houses, gardens and small commercial strips spread along the roads, separated by coconut groves, paddy fields and patches of higher ground. On a map, the settlement is a web of lanes rather than a compact block.
This loose pattern is what makes the black-and-white print interesting. Main roads curve with the terrain, and small lanes branch off them to reach homes set among trees. There are no long straight avenues here. In recent years Puthūr has also become known as the site chosen for the new zoological park serving Thrissur, which is changing part of the local landscape.

Lanes among the groves
Countless small lanes branch off to reach houses set in gardens and coconut groves. On the map they create a fine, branching texture, dense in places and sparse in others.
Zoological park site
