Rādhanpur lies in Patan District in northern Gujarat, near the eastern edge of the Little Rann of Kutch. On a map the town appears as a compact, densely built settlement surrounded by flat, dry land. To the west, the landscape gradually gives way to the vast, pale expanse of the Rann, a seasonal salt marsh that floods in the monsoon and dries out for the rest of the year.
Rādhanpur was once the seat of a princely state ruled by the Babi dynasty of Nawabs, and the older part of town retains the close, winding street pattern of that era. Its position has long made it a stopping point on routes between mainland Gujarat and Kutch.
