Ramu lies in Mandera County in the northeastern corner of Kenya, near the borders with Ethiopia and Somalia. On a map it is a compact settlement in a very open landscape: a few streets and buildings gathered together, with long, thin roads extending across dry land toward other towns in the county.
The terrain around it is arid and lightly vegetated, crossed by seasonal watercourses that fill only after rain.
