Rochester Map Poster & Print
Rochester, New York, grew around the Genesee River, which runs north through the city to Lake Ontario. On a map, the river is the main line. It runs through downtown, drops at High Falls into a deep gorge and continues north to the lake shore. Streets radiate from the centre in a pattern shaped by nineteenth-century growth.
The city grew as a milling town and a stop on the Erie Canal, and later became home to Kodak, Xerox and Bausch & Lomb. It is also closely tied to Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. Olmsted-designed parks, including Highland Park with its lilacs, add large green shapes to the map.
A Rochester map poster shows the gorge, the river bridges and the tree-lined residential streets spreading out from downtown. With the lakefront at the top and the parks spread across the city, it is a map with many clear features and a strong sense of place.

Olmsted parks
Highland, Genesee Valley and Seneca parks were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted's firm. They add broad, curving green spaces to different parts of the city.
Lake Ontario shore
To the north, the river reaches Lake Ontario at Charlotte. The long shoreline forms a clean upper edge for the map.
