Rowlett lies northeast of Dallas, spread along the eastern side of Lake Ray Hubbard, a large reservoir on the East Fork of the Trinity River. On a map, the water dominates the western edge of the city, its shoreline broken by coves and peninsulas that residential streets wrap around. Inland, the pattern is classic Texas suburbia: loops, cul-de-sacs and long arterial roads.
Interstate 30 crosses the lake along the city's southern edge, drawing a long straight line over the water, and the President George Bush Turnpike threads through the western side of town.
