Rubio is a town in Táchira state in western Venezuela, in the Andean highlands not far from the Colombian border. It lies in a valley surrounded by steep green slopes. On a map the built-up area follows the shape of the valley floor, with roads squeezed between hills.
The area around Rubio has long been connected with coffee. The cool mountain climate made it one of Táchira's coffee-growing areas, and the crop shaped the town's growth. Today it stays closely tied to nearby San Cristóbal and the border region.
