Sāmba is the headquarters of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir, located south-east of Jammu near the international border. The town stands where the plains of Jammu begin to rise into the Shivalik foothills, and its map reflects that transition. Streets climb gently from the lower ground, and the terrain becomes more broken toward the north.
