San Bernardino sits at the northeastern edge of the Inland Empire in Southern California, where the flat valley floor runs straight into the San Bernardino Mountains. On a map the city is a broad, mostly regular grid of streets and freeways, cut diagonally by washes and flood channels coming down from the foothills.
