Sankeshwar is a town in Belagavi district in northern Karnataka, close to the border with Maharashtra. It lies on the Hiranyakeshi River, and on the map the river's curve gives an otherwise compact town a clear, natural edge. The older streets gather near the water, and newer neighbourhoods spread out onto the open land around them.
