Schroeder is a small municipality in northern Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, close to Jaraguá do Sul and the industrial Itapocu valley. Like many towns in this region, it was settled by German immigrants, and that history still shows in family names and local traditions. Forested hills of the Serra do Mar rise around it.
The map follows the landscape. The town stretches along its river valleys, and its main roads run with the water. Residential streets climb a little way up the slopes and stop where the hills get steep. The pattern is long and linear rather than round, which gives the map a distinctive flow.
