Shāhpur, also written Shahapur, is a town in Yadgir district in the north of Karnataka. It sits on the Deccan plateau, in a landscape of low, rocky hills and wide, dry fields. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets near the base of the hills, with the main roads running out across the plain toward neighbouring towns and villages.
This part of Karnataka lies within the basin of the Krishna and Bhima rivers, and irrigation from the Krishna project has changed farming in parts of the district. The town works as a market and administrative centre for the surrounding villages, and its layout reflects gradual growth around its roads rather than a single plan.
