Shek O sits at the southeastern corner of Hong Kong Island, at the end of a winding road over the hills. It feels far removed from the towers of the harbour front. On a map it is a small cluster of lanes and village houses on a low neck of land, with the open South China Sea on one side and a sweep of sand on the other.
The beach at Shek O is one of the best known on the island, and the rocky headland beyond it pushes out into the water. Behind the village, the ridge carries the Dragon's Back trail, a popular walk with long sea views. Big Wave Bay lies just to the north, another curve of coastline on the same map.

Dragon's Back ridge
