Sitārganj lies in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, on the flat, fertile Terai plain at the foot of the Kumaon hills. On a map the town grows along its main road. A market centre with denser streets sits near the middle, and residential areas and fields spread out on either side. Canals and streams cross the surrounding farmland from the hills toward the plains.
The Terai was once largely forest and marsh, and much of it was cleared and settled for farming in the twentieth century. Today it is one of Uttarakhand's agricultural and industrial areas. Sitārganj reflects both roles, with market streets, farmland and an industrial area nearby.
