Sokal Map Poster & Print
Sokal is in the north of Lviv Oblast, on the Western Bug River, not far from the border with Poland. On a map, the river is the defining feature. It winds through a wide, flat floodplain, with loops and old channels on both sides. The town sits along it, and much of the layout follows the curve of the valley.
The town has a long history as a trading and religious centre in the borderlands between Ukraine and Poland. Its historic monastery complex by the river is one of its best-known buildings. The surrounding landscape is open farmland, crossed by roads leading to Lviv, Chervonohrad and the border crossings to the west.
