Soloma, officially San Pedro Soloma, lies in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes in the department of Huehuetenango, in northwestern Guatemala. From above, the town occupies a valley floor enclosed by steep, forested and farmed mountainsides. The centre keeps a small, regular grid around its plaza and church, and the streets become irregular as they reach the slopes.
The valley shapes everything: a stream runs through it, and roads leave town along the valley or climb the mountains in tight bends. Scattered villages and hamlets sit on the surrounding ridges, linked by tracks. The landscape is steep enough that roads and settlements must follow the terrain closely.

The town fills a narrow valley with a stream running through it. The slopes rise on both sides, pressing the streets into a compact shape.

Roads leave the valley in switchbacks across the Cuchumatanes. Their tight curves fill the edges of the map with distinctive, looping lines.
